Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny, Vol. 2

As Destiny, the sequel to the popular Gundam Seed, continues, relations between the normal humans and the genetically enhanced Coordinators deteriorate. Renegade Coordinators disturb the orbit of the enormous monument, the Junius 7, positioning it to strike the Earth. Shin, Athrun, and other Mobile Suit pilots from the Earth and ZAFT work together to destroy as much of Junius as possible. Although they save the Earth from complete destruction, the devastation is still enormous--and precipitates a declaration of war from the Earth Alliance against ZAFT. The growing cries of the humans to purge the Coordinators from "our pure and blue world" can be read as a commentary on 21st-century politics. Athrun agonizes over the renegades' references to his father's ideas, but finds time to court Cagalli. Director Mitsuo Fukuda skillfully blends CG and traditional animation to give the space battles maximum pizzazz. But the story feels padded: The scene of Shin finding his sister's body appears at least once per episode. (Rated 13 and older: violence, brief nudity)

Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny, Vol. 2 Reviews:

Lacus Clyne Lip Syncs to Someone Else's Singing Voice in the English Dub
One of my favorite moments in this Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny, Vol. 2 is when Lacus Clyne sings the song "Fields of Hope" as Junius 7 falls. Deeply moving. Written, composed and arranged by Yuki Kajiura, and sung by Lacus Clyne's Japanese voice actor Rie Tanaka, the original Japanese version of "Fields of Hope" is great. Read more >>

Drastic Measures and Stakes Being Raised
Well first off this is definetly the DVD for Athrun Zala fans. His character ultimately takes center stage for all five episodes. More characters from the original Gundam Seed pop up and virtually everything done at the end of the original Gundam Seed Series wound up being for nothing. Read more >>
